Hey guys and gals! It’s been a busy few months since our last update and we have lots of good news to share. Late in the summer, we unexpectedly found out that a song of ours took off in the United States. We contacted SOCAN and they told us that ‘Diamondback’ was in heavy rotation on American satellite radio – turns out it was a minor hit. The success of that song means a great deal to us, folks, because we worked with a lot people in the past who told us that songs like Diamondback wouldn’t do us any good. Very proud that it became our first hit. We’re also happy to say that we generated some interest from a management company based in LA, and have recently been offered a record deal by a really cool label from London, Ontario. We were honoured that these companies contacted us, but after much deliberation, we politely turned them down. We feel we’ve been doing pretty well on our own and plan on setting our sights even further for our third and longest release, which, by the way, is almost complete. We’ve narrowed our focus to eleven songs and we’re very excited because they touch upon a whole slew of styles and themes that weren’t explored during our ‘Sketches’ days. It’s really shaping up to be our best yet, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the ground, friends! Again, thank you for all your support. Hopefully see you soon…
What a great month it’s been. We were a part of Canadian Music Week, played a unique show on the rooftop of Dr. Disc and rocked The Baltimore House (one of the coolest venues around) with some of our favourite bands to celebrate the long weekend. We were fortunate enough to have received a ‘Bassist of the Year’ award and an ‘Alternative/Indie Rock Recording of the Year’ nomination at the 2015 Hamilton Music Awards, and, to top it off, have had our music video for ‘The Way Love Goes’ exclusively released through Exclaim! Big thanks to the cast and crew, especially Mario, Shauna, Andrew, Keenan and Misha (some of the nicest and most creative people we’ve had the pleasure to work with) and to the folks over at Exclaim! Music. We’ll be hard at work on our third album over the next few months, but you can still catch us at The Lazy Flamingo for Originals Nite Vol. 3 on June 3rd and at Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival on June 20th. Thanks for making this past month a memorable one…
Our live performance videos for ‘You’re So Cruel’, ‘(All I Do Is) Treat You Right’ and ‘Diamondback’ are now up on our YouTube channel, folks! Big thanks to CJ Ricotonne and Sean Pearson for all their hard work, and to Sean McAuley and Alyssa Wainwright for jammin’ with us. Our next music video will be for our song, ‘The Way Love Goes’. We filmed it last weekend with some up-and-coming film students, actors and artists. Great bunch of people who’ve really blown us away with their work so far. We also have some pretty big Toronto shows coming up: The Cavern Bar for a Steam Whistle/Scene Magazine event this Saturday with Womb, a residency at the Bovine Sex Club in March, a Hart House Stages event at UofT on April 2nd and the Ginger Ale and the Monowhales’ single release party at Smiling Buddha Bar on April 25th. Keep on rockin’ ladies and gents..we’ll see you soon!
Well, that wraps up another summer, folks. After three residencies and a three-week tour of the US, we can all agree that the past few months have been nothing short of inspiring. Thank you America, for everything – the love, the laughs and for being the best neighbour any country could ever ask for. Up next on the ZILI agenda, we’ll be playing Supercrawl on September 12th and at Mohawk College – with USS and Virginia to Vegas – on September 19th. Expect to see a few more music videos in the near future as well. Who knows, one of ‘em might even be a sneak peek of a song from ‘Sketches III’!
It’s gonna be a busy one, folks! Proud to announce that from August to September, we’ll be touring the USA for what we’re calling our “Give Me Liberty! Tour”. Starting in May, we’ll also be working with a publicist from New York City’s Effective Immediately PR and our friend, Eric Martin, will be officially heading our managerial team. Last but not least, we’ll be keeping a few residencies at some of our favourite drinking establishments over the next few months. Along with our bi-weekly stint at the Lazy Flamingo on Wednesdays, we’ll be playing covers at the Dickens Pub (Burlington) on Sundays and the Red Hot Chili Pepper (St. Catharines) on Mondays under the moniker, The Bleeding Idahos. Oh say does that star-spangled banner yet waaave..see you soon!
Big thanks to everyone who came out to This Ain’t Hollywood for our CD Release Party the other night. It was an absolute rush..and the place SOLD OUT! We’re also very fortunate to have had some kind words written up about us in the Hamilton Spectator, VIEW Magazine, Music Lives and The Silhouette over these past two weeks. Up next, we’ll be playing Peterborough, Kingston, Ottawa and Montreal, so yes, there’s still a lot more fun ahead. In the meantime, we hope you’re able to give “Sketches II” a listen and we hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it. As writers, producers and performers, it’s something we’re extremely proud of. Once again, thank you for all your support. Hopefully we’ll catch you on the dance floor again sometime soon.
Alright guys, our sophomore album, “Sketches II” is here and we’re celebrating at This Ain’t Hollywood by playing the entire “Sketches” series front to back! As you may or may not know, we’ve been playing Rock n’ Roll music together for the past eight years and during that time we’ve been fortunate enough to have done some really amazing things..we’ve been on TV, toured the continent, opened for KISS and Bon Jovi and met a lot of great people along the way. But if there’s one thing that we feel absolutely certain about, it’s that there’s nothing more exhilarating and nothing we are more proud of than being able to throw a CD Release Party with friends and family who’ve supported us since day one. As usual, we’ll be having a few guests who will be joining us on stage and The Bandicoots and Go To The West will be helping us take it home. It’s gonna be quite the night, folks – our last in Hamilton before we’re back on the road – so come by, have a few drinks and get a glimpse of what the THE ZILIS are all about.
Alright guys here’s the inside scoop! As you may or may not know, ”Sketches II” is complete and is set for a release in early 2014. Our work, however, is far from over. In the next few months, we plan on recording a new music video, booking an east coast tour, updating our website, doing another photoshoot and getting some ZILI merch…yes, we’re finally ordering our very own t-shirts!! We’re very proud of this album. It’s definitely our finest collection of songs yet, so you can bet your bell-bottoms that we’re gonna do everything we can to make this release the best it can be. Buckle up, sit tight and enjoy the ride, folks! There are some great things to come ahead…
What an eventful summer it’s been for The Zilis! How can we forget the Berkeley Church fundraiser in Toronto with our friends, The Pick Brothers, or the Canada Day Party with the Flamingo crew along the Hamilton waterfront..the Who’s We Launch Party at Bay City Music Hall, the awesome Horseshoe Tavern gig with Of Gentlemen and Cowards or the good vibes at Thorpe’s Organic Farm in Millgrove? Throw in our bi-weekly residency at the Lazy Flamingo and you can say we’ve covered a lot of ground this summer! Still, we want to end the season with a bang; and what better way to do it than with the recording of a brand new album! We have a ton of new tunes and ideas to work on folks, so the three of us will be hibernating at home and in the studio the next few weeks to really sort ‘em out. So far, everything sounds fantastic but only the best of the bunch will be making the cut for “Sketches II”! Stay tuned for more updates folks, this one’s gonna be special!
It’s been a fantastic May ladies and gents! Our latest tour – “The Indulgence Tour 2013” – took us to Montreal, Ottawa, Kingston and Windsor, and finished off with a bang at the ultra-cool Casbah Lounge in Hamilton. We were also fortunate enough to have a photo shoot with the super talented Joe Fuda in Toronto last month (check out the pics on Facebook and Instagram!). Last but certainly not least, we have been offered a summer residency gig down at the Lazy Flamingo where we’ll be performing for FREE every other Wednesday. The past few gigs there have been off the rails so make sure you check it out! We’re really excited about these new tunes as well and can’t wait to start working on “Sketches II”. Stay tuned for updates on the new album folks! Once again, thank you for your support. Hopefully see you soon..
